KIRA – A Fulldome Planetarium Show

4 posts

Coordinators: Björn Voss, Axel Krieger
The production of an anniversary show is the biggest project of the anniversary year. This anniversary show is not intended to be an “ordinary” planetarium show (narrated from the off, entirely or almost entirely CGI), but is intended to be particularly innovative through the involvement of actors, with a focus on good dialogues.

The premiere of the show is scheduled to take place at the opening of the anniversary year, on October 21, 2023.
At a later time, there will be more news on this page on show posters, trailers, shipment, and more.

KIRA short description:
In the not-so-distant future, the largest corporation on the planet controls
Earth’s most precious resource: water. A brave duo, Eve and Max, are ready to risk everything to expose the truth and give humanity a chance to survive. As danger closes in, Kira steps in to help. But who—or what—is Kira? In a world where the boundaries between reality and technology are blurred, what’s real? And more importantly, what’s true?

KIRA was commissioned by the International Planetarium Society to set a new benchmark as a cinematic movie developed specifically for fulldome screens in celebration 100 years of the Planetarium.
KIRA was designed using the latest tools, software, and technology, including the gaming engine Unreal Engine 5, which allows for realistic, detailed environments, characters, and objects, and MetaHuman Animator, a brand-new performance-capture capability. One hundred years ago, the first planetarium projector brought the sky down to Earth and enthralled audiences with simulated stars. Now, KIRA employs a thought-provoking story and immersive technology to evolve the
planetarium experience to an entirely new level and usher in the next 100 years.
