100 Years of Eternity

“100 Years of Eternity” is a 35 min. long planetarium show on the cultural history of the planetarium.

It premiered simultaneously in Jena and Munich on 21st of October 2023 on the occasion of the centennial of the projection planetarium. It has been written and created by Tobias Wiethoff on behalf of GDP.

The topic is man’s engagement with the sky, which has had a significant influence on the history of civilization. Megalithic stone circles bear witness to this, as do the astronomical origins of science in ancient Greece and the technical processes of modern ocean navigation. “100 Years of Eternity” shows how the planetarium represents a modern highlight of this millennia-old cultural-historical development. On the occasion of the centenary of the planetariums, “100 Years of Eternity” presents the audience with a mental journey from the early cultures of humanity, along people’s constantly changing perception of the sky, to the modern “star theater” of the planetariums.
